STAY AWAY FROM OUR CHILDREN!

Cybersecurity Bill S. 773 will provide even more opportunity for the federal government to control and intrude on our lives. This bill currently before the Senate would strengthen powers provided by Homeland Security Legislation under the Bush Administration. Senate Bill 773 would provide the President of the United States to shut down internet traffic, and networks both private and public he decides are critical infrastructure.

But even more disturbing to me is the following language found in Section 12 of this bill:

“shall provide a procedure for identifying promising K–12 students for participation in summer work and internship programs that would lead to certification of Federal information technology workforce standards and possible future employment;”

This power would be granted to the director of the National Science Foundation – a division of the federal government headed by presidential appointees. Can you think of other another 20th century country that placed children in work and programs based on the government’s assessment of their potential?

Are you willing to allow your child or grandchild’s freedom to choose a career, a passion in life to be taken from them? For me and mine - stay away!
